In the beautiful tea gardens of Bangladesh, rows of lush green leaves stretch as far as the eye can see. But while the trees and tea shrubs flourish, leprosy has taken root. The disease is more common in these communities than anywhere else in the world, with rates 20 to 30 times higher than the global average.
If it is not stopped now, it will have devastating consequences not only for the 600,000 people working in the tea gardens, but for all of Bangladesh.
We believe that every person deserves life in all its fullness. We can’t stop until, together, we see flourishing health, flourishing communities, and flourishing lives. So now is the time to join us and help train healthcare workers to diagnose and cure leprosy, prevent disability, protect livelihoods, and stop the spread of this disease. The hopes and dreams of thousands of tea garden workers depend on it.
Between January and April 2023, your church can hold a Leprosy Sunday or organise an event that will transform lives in Bangladesh. World Leprosy Day 2023 is on 29 January, so you can choose to mark the day with your own Leprosy Sunday or hold it on a date that is most convenient for you.
